My life’s story and interests could be compiled into a whole house worth of literature, but I will keep it short and simple and just give you a quick background of my interests and my current “occupations”.
I started dance when I was two years old. So, I guess one might say I was born to dance. I stuck with that for many years to come, but sports also came into the picture. When I was four I started soccer. Then, in fourth grade I started basketball. All the while, I stuck with dance. Dance usually consisted of ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop. Soccer was dropped, but basketball was just beginning. I continued with dance and basketball up until sixth grade. All of a sudden, scheduling conflicts were arising and I had to choose on or the other. I figured because I had stuck with dance all these years, then I might try sports on a more serious level. In the beginning of sixth grade, I did volleyball, then basketball, and eventually even field hockey. Sports were so much fun, and I obviously missed dance a little, but athletics had helped me make so many friends and have so much fun within my school. At the beginning of seventh grade, I realized how much I missed dance. So, I tried to do both dance and sports. I was doing hip hop on Wednesdays and cross country throughout the rest of the week. But when the meets were at the same time as the classes, I had to, once again, choose one. So, I chose cross country which I had already said I was going to do. Then, I did basketball again, and despite the difficulty I was really having a good time. After basketball I chose not to do any other school sports for the rest of the year. In that time, I took up theater. I had done theater in previous years and had always loved it, so I though I would just occupy my time. Both You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown and Golden were the shows I did and I had never been so relieved to start something again. I had a huge chunk missing from my life, and it was something that I had grown such a love for over the years. Then, over summer, I started dance again and was doing a Johns Hopkins writing course. Through those past years, I had experienced the joys and strains that made me realize what my true interests were. I was a born performer, whether theater or dance and sports were fun for me, but I had moved on for that time. And writing is my necessity and my gift.
